Alison has devoted the last three years of her life to caring for her mother, who has Alzheimer’s disease. When she wakes one morning to find the front door of her house open and her patient gone, Alison fails to raise the alarm. Instead, she chooses to escape to the relative calm of a floatation tank - a decision that will have grave consequences. floating is easy is the first short drama for cinema to be directed by Scottish BAFTA award-winning documentary maker Graeme McAulay. Written by Katy McAulay, the 14-minute short is produced by Abigail Howkins, whose company Alcoba Films has a strong record of producing distinctive, award-winning films. Featuring a cast of new and established acting talent in Scotland – Rebecca Sloyan, Alison Peebles and Shonagh Price – floating is easy was filmed on location in Glasgow and Edinburgh, Scotland and shot on HDCAM (Panasonic HVX900) by award-winning director of photography Paul Riley. The script for floating is easy was developed through the GMAC Shortcuts script development programme (supported by Scottish Screen and the UK Film Council). _______________________________________________________________________________________
Graeme McAulay Graeme McAulay is an award-winning documentary-maker and journalist. Working for the BBC in Scotland and London he has made programmes for Frontline Scotland, Panorama and The Money Programme. One of his Frontline Scotland investigations won a Scottish BAFTA in 2006 and another of his programmes, this time a Panorama, has been nominated for this year's awards. floating is easy is his first drama for cinema. Katy McAulay floating is easy introduces the scriptwriting talent of Katy McAulay. Katy has five years experience as a journalist, editor and copywriter. She has a Masters degree in creative writing from the University of Glasgow. Writing novels, short stories and scripts, she explores themes of escape and city life.
